Ingredients
1x Pagnotta loaf, day-old is best
¾ cup salted butter, melted
3 garlic cloves, pressed or grated
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 cup pizza sauce plus more for serving if desired
3 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
½ cup parmesan cheese
20-30 pepperoni slices
Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375F.
- Cut the bread in a 1 inch grid pattern and place on the baking sheet.Place in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
- To the melted butter add the pressed garlic cloves and Italian seasoning. Stir together.
- After the bread has been in the oven for 10 minutes, remove from the oven. Use a pastry brush or small spoon to drizzle half of the melted butter mixture in between the bread slices.
- Use your hands to layer in 1 ½ cups of the shredded mozzarella cheese between the slices, followed by the sauce and then 1 ½ cups more of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Tuck in half of the pepperoni.
- Brush the top and sides of the bread with the rest of the butter, wrap in foil and bake for15 minutes.
- Remove and unwrap the foil from the bread. Sprinkle over the parmesan cheese, ½ cup more shredded mozzarella cheese and top with the rest of the pepperoni.
- Bake for 20-30 more minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Serve topped with fresh basil and more pizza sauce for dipping if desired
TIPS
- Add in other favourite pizza toppings like diced green pepper, cooked mushrooms or cooked sausage.
